“12 Tiny Things” Spiritual Practices

Collegeville Institute board member Ellie Roscher authored the new book 12 Tiny Things: Simple Ways to Live a More Intentional Life. The CCI commissioned Ellie to develop two small group guides for congregational use: one to be used during the Easter season and another for teenagers. The spiritual practices Ellie offers provide ongoing, daily ways of relating to God – a basis from which good discernment comes.

Tiny Things for Easter

This season, look for life breaking through death. See tiny resurrections in all the nooks and crannies of our mundane, routine moments. Embrace the renewal that comes with each new breath and each new day. Use this calendar to pay attention, deepen your roots, live from a sense of gratitude and be open to finding God in the ordinary.

Tiny Things for Adults

Below you will find twelve weeks of content you can use in your congregation. Each week includes a theme, quote, Bible verse, journal prompts and tiny spiritual practices to try.

Consider asking one member of your congregation to share a 5-10 minute story or personal reflection based on the theme and Bible verse. Part of the time can be working through the theme in large group. Part of the time can be spent in small groups reflecting on how the micro-spiritual practices went from the week prior and working through the discussion questions from the current theme. It will work well online or in person.

This packet is a starting point. Take these elements and craft a series that works for you.
